WHY NLA PRESIDENT?
I am soliciting your vote to become the NLA president in order to do the following:
- Maintaining, and if possible, surpassing the tempo already set by the administrations of Jimi Daniel and Victoria Okojie. The NLA by any standard is one of the most vibrant professional associations in Africa. I want to increase the visibility of NLA.
- Establishing a partnership with well–endowed individuals and corporate bodies in Nigeria, as well as international foundations for support in building and maintaining standard public libraries in each of the six geographical zones in Nigeria, which governments throughout Nigeria would be expected to use as models.
- Facilitating the establishment of Senate and House of Representatives committees on libraries.
- Ensuring that the Registrar of the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria is appointed within the shortest possible time.
- Broadening and increasing the membership base of NLA by at least 20% within two years.
- Ensuring that library schools in Nigeria are accredited by the Nigeria Library Association.
- Actively pursuing the capacity building of all categories of members in the face of everincreasing innovations in the practice of LIS profession.
- Using my international connections for the benefits of the association by organizing regular capacity building activities and inviting resource persons from other countries.
- Establishing a training fund for the purpose of assisting green librarians in capacity building. Fellows of Nigeria Library Association will play a prominent role in this regard.
- Promoting accountability, transparency and integrity in managing NLA funds.
